Learn about the power of fire and plant some trees with DNR Pigeon River Country and the Detroit Zoo! This event is being held on the 1-year anniversary of the Blue Lakes Fire which burned 2500 acres, including 900 acres of the Pigeon River Country State Forest. This two-part event starts with a Discovery Center presentation on fire ecology and the Blue Lakes Fire specifically. Then we’ll take a break before driving out to the fire location to plant trees in the afternoon. Participants should expect to be outside for a significant amount of time, conditions may be buggy or sunny.
Expect some lifting and digging during the planting. A reusable water bottle, leather work gloves, snacks, and bug spray are all recommended. This event is rain or shine. We’ll be caravaning to and from the planting site. Contact [email protected] for more information.
